We started our journey from Washington down to California and had an overnight pitstop in Yakima which turned out to be the far more interesting than we anticipated, I wanted to stay and take more pictures but we had to hit the road. We headed south into Oregon and stopped off at Mt Hood to drive up to the famous Timberline Lodge to have a peek inside ( The Shining was set here :-0) and take in the incredible views. There’s nothing quite like an enormous snow covered volcano rising out of the forest as you round a bend in the road. From Mt Hood we drove across the Columbia River ( passing a wild fire that had just broken out in the bush, much to Francis’s delight!) and across a beautiful desert plain at sunset which was absolutely stunning and required many a photo stop!
